Knowledge and Human Development Authority arm satisfied with quality of programmes after review
Dubai: After having all its programmes put on probation since April last year, the Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology (Szabist) Dubai Campus is now back on track, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority announced on Sunday.
Ten universities, including Szabist, in Dubai's Free Zones came under review last week when the University Quality Assurance International Board (UQAIB) members met. Six universities had asked for their licences to be renewed, one application for a new university was considered, and three universities were asked to supply UQAIB with more information about their academic programmes and accreditation from their home campuses.
The UQAIB ensures the quality of the higher education provided by branch campuses in Dubai's free zones is the same as the accredited home campus.
Head of Szabist Dubai Campus Dr Faiz Ishaq said all academic programmes were put on probation last year though the institution was allowed to admit students.
To get its programmes approved by the KHDA, Szabist prepared a 350-page self-study report on all aspects of its programme, said Dr Ishaq. The report was reviewed by panels of independent reviewers drawn from other institutions, such as Hult, University of Wollongong in Dubai, Murdoch University, Zayed University, he said.
"They were generally satisfied with the curriculum content, facilities, infrastructure etc. However they raised some concerns and made some comments that we are actively pursuing."
